| Students give book talks each day after sustained, silent reading. Today was the first student book talk, and the book Savvy was recommended. The most book recommendations that have the most value at this age tend to come from peers. |
| Students keep track of important events on our monthly calendar. The name of the person giving the book talk is also written on the bottom of each day in green. |
| 2 wires, one battery, one light bulb: our first science investigation. |
| Lots of light bulbs went off for students. There were four possible ways to make the bulb light up. |
| Scientists don't just tinker: they communicate with drawing, writing, and speech. |
| Students began decorating their writers notebooks this afternoon and will finish for homework. |
| The "homework boogie" happens each day at 2:45. Students write down homework assignments while teachers explain |
| The weekly planner. |
Homework:
Finish decorating writers notebook with collage. Remember that a good notebook will be covered with lots of collage on both sides. Barely, if any, of the black and white spots on the notebook cover will be visible. The student's name will be clearly visible on the front. The pictures will have meaning for the students and give him or her ideas for writing.
4th grade math: Don't forget that you can always click on the link at the top of this page to view Strawberry's blog, the place where Jeff and Kellyne post each day.
5th grade math: Page 4 in the packet, which is labeled "Monday Homework." Each week's homework will be downloadable in one or two files. Students receive all their homework for the week on Mondays and are encouraged/expected to keep pace with the instruction, not do it all on Monday night. Here is this week's packet in two parts:
Part 1 and
Part 2
Read 20 minutes and fill out reading log on weekly planner (every night, always, until you're 84)
