Recognize this activity? Students helped construct a concept map for our electricity study this morning. See below for a close-up.
Students tested 20 or so different materials today for conductivity.
We couldn't get water or vinegar to conduct electricity, though in theory we should have. Any ideas? Perhaps not enough voltage...
Students shared slide shows of the photo booth pictures they took of themselves in the blue, green, yellow, and red zones.
Read 20 minutes (or all night) and fill out your reading log.
Write for 15 minutes. You may write in any genre, but I ask that you write with a "magnifying glass." That is to say, take a small moment and really blow it up.
Math: Fourth grade click on the Strawberry Blog link at the top of the page.
Fifth graders worked with a challenging new multiplication strategy today called "cluster problems" in which one employs a series of easy multiplication problems to solve a more challenging problem. The strategy is a good one that improves students' abilities to solve problems mentally. For example, how can one use 20 x 10, 22 x 10, and 22 x 2 to help solve 22 x 16? Students can download this week's packet on Monday's blog, and they also must hand in last week's problem of the week tomorrow.
