Pioneer spirit, cinquains, and odes

Students wrote cinquains last week after sucking lemons. Powerful words come from powerful experience.

Maybe you can pick out a few of the poems if you look closely. Students will write an ode tonight about something they love. They have long lists of things they love in their writers notebooks.

We worked to define "pioneer spirit" yesterday and today. Students will complete a research project to deepen their understanding of what it means to be a pioneer.
Homework:
Write: one ode, at least ten lines, in your writers notebook
Science: finish the reading and questions on the planets
Math: Yes! Download above, if need be
Read, always.

In math club, which was all girls today, many students engaged in a series ofpuzzles using 0-9 number tiles, while others solved algebraic and computational problems involving air travel.  A few students gave the math game 24 a try. Final math club of the year will be on June 5, in two weeks.
