Odious Odes and Research Projects

We wrote "odious odes" today about things that annoy, disturb, or vex us in our everyday life. Here's the list of possible subjects students came up with:
Hey Poets,

So you can write poems about things you really like, but you can also write poems about things you really don't like (and in some ways it's more fun!).
In your writers notebook, let's start a list of things we really don't like (pet peeves, things that annoy us, etc.).

night noise
alarm clocks
security lights
people telling me I'm lucky to be an only child
apartments / thin walls
getting tackled by my brother
not sharing
math class
sprinkler in the window
siblings
mosquitoes/ants/buzzing flies
closed conversations
poison oak
getting hurt / scars

my brother eating cereal
when sister puts on mom's high heels and click clacks all over the house
dad eating popcorn
weed whackers, leaf blowers
brother snoring (or anyone)
commercials
nosy people
people that jibber-jabber on and on
tickling
getting flipped over
construction site
rap music
neighbors
people who smack their gum
fire alarms

Homework is to write another odious ode! At least ten lines in the writers notebook.
Math
Reading

Also, be aware that students began work on a final research project today and will be researching, writing, and presenting over the next few weeks. Please check out the details of the assignment. Much of this project will be completed at school, but some of it will happen at home. You will likely be called on by your child to fine-tune a PowerPoint or do some typing. This is a big deal, a culminating project that connects students' and families' lives with the history we have been studying this year. Thanks in advance for your support.
