In readers workshop, students were assigned reading partners for this week. They had to share their ideas for a few minutes about the books they have been reading independently.

A typical reading conference has teachers pushing student thinking.

Today's mini-lesson.

What is the value of myth? What sources of information should inform our study of Native Californians? We watched a clip from an old movie about how Native Americans were commonly portrayed in Westerns and talked about bias. Students committed Ohlone myths to memory and retold them to their peers.
