Extra large rubberbands are one of the accommodations learning support has procured for students to better maintain focus during independent work times. Cushions help students sit up tall, stay alert, and build core strength.

I have been going to math clubs on Tuesdays with students to work on challenging problems. Sima runs the club each Tuesday at lunch and it is for everybody at the 4/5 level. Here, students physically act out a frogs and toads problem. How do you get all the frogs to the left and all the toads to the right with slides and hops?

We had a bunch of book talks today, and students are showing improvement in their ability to speak off the cuff about their favorite reads.

Students played duck, duck, goose before science to get them out of their post-lunch doldrums. It worked. Students began working on their final projects for electricity and magnetism, and it went great. See the concept map below and be sure to ask your child what he or she is building to demonstrate his understanding.

Homework:
•Both grades have math worksheets. Math downloads are available in the top toolbar.
•Wordly Wise, exercises 2C and 2D due tomorrow.
•Read 20 minutes or more and record your reading in your log

Math Club Summary: Today all of the fourth graders had a preview of our game, Frogs and Toads.  In Math Club many students puzzled over how to switch the positions of the frogs and toads reliably, and record their steps. After acting out the solutions for 1 and 2 frogs and toads, we decided to start next week's Math Club with the 3 frog/toad solution.  Many students pondered theMeasuring Up problem, using proportional thinking in different situations, like scaling up a recipe for Stone Soup.  Other students worked on this week's Puzzles.  It is encouraging to see more students trying out Math Club.
