Thank you to room parent Lisa Hanson for journeying across the Bay last night for the San Francisco Public Library book sale. 150 new titles meant a total reorganization of the library today. It was a fine opportunity for students to practice alphabetizing.

Students began their typing program today. They will practice, practice, practice this year. Admittedly not my favorite thing to teach, yet the students seem to love it!

Today's book talk was on Peter and the Star Catchers, which this student described as "like Peter Pan, just better." When students are interested in a book another student reviews, they write it on their "Books I'd Like to Read This Year" list.

Another birthday girl shares photos of her earlier days. Thanks for the delicious tiramisu treats.
Homework:
Read for 30 minutes
Spelling: practice your words (fill out one sheet)
Math:
5th graders considered what the factors of 12 tell us about the factors of 120, or the factors of 15 about 150. They worked more with prime factorization, and today's problems were writing-based. Their homework tonight is again based on factors and multiples.
4th grade math: 4th graders learned a new game, called How Long? How Many? The object of the game was to construct arrays using Cuisinaire rods that would cover the greatest amount of space.  Students also tackled some more array picture problems and completed an assessment.

Tonight 4th graders have a choice in homework. Option 2 is more challenging than option 1.
