Slippers!

Another book talk during readers and writers workshop

The flag stones on the labyrinth make a great grid for teaching latitude and longitude. Students had to  use coordinates to find  the punch line to my corny joke: what do you call a pair of shoes made out of bananas?

Student half groups had their first music and Spanish classes today. This smaller group format will benefit both teachers and students.
Homework:

  • 30 minutes reading and character map (in readers and writers notebook)
  • Write 8 words on your Personal Spelling List that you misspelled in your writers notebook. If you can't find eight, use some of the words that you know you often misspell. Make sure you spell them right this time, which may take a computer, dictionary, or parent.
  • Math note from Sima:

Today in 4th grade math, students continued exploring pattern blocks, base ten blocks, connecting cubes, and color tile manipulatives to demonstrate their understanding of concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplicition, symmetry, and combinations of patterns.  To develop number sense, we discussed all we knew about a particular "target" number, using words, math sentences, and pictures.  Students will continue this work at home tonight, which is due tomorrow. 4th grade math homework 9.13.11

  • The 5th grade math packet for this week can be downloaded from yesterday's blog
