How to Listen, Worms, and Concentration Tools

A fine example of the "knee-to-knee" position we often use to share in writers workshop.

Another satisfied Eat Smart customer. This guy has a great smile.

Our first unit in science will be on sustainability. Students examined the vermicompost today and took a worm census. We will visit the transfer station on Davis Street in Oakland, analyze processed foods at the supermarket, and have a special guest speaker on green building practices in the course of the unit.

Students practiced the "Grand Traverse" this afternoon during Community time–a period each week focusing on the social dimension of classroom life. The traverse is for students that need some physical stimulation to support their focus and motivation. Even teachers take a traverse every now and again.
Homework:
Read for 30 minutes and write a one-paragraph plot summary of what you have read so far. Basically, tell what happens in the book.

4th grade math
Today's questions:
What is a factor?
How can arrays help us find factors?

Students began making arrays to represent different numbers, and using the dimensions to find their factors.
