Sima led a powerful meeting this morning about the discrimination simulation an Iowa teacher performed in the 70's in Iowa. Check out the YouTube video and discuss it with your child. A few great questions students came up with: What about student that had green eyes? Why did the teacher do that? Why didn't she just tell them about discrimination?

What happens to the area and perimeter of similar polygons when you double and triple the length of their sides?

4th Grade Blue and Purple Groups:  Today we worked together as one class.  The students were led in a demonstration to make Tangrams from a 4"x4" square of paper by folding and cutting.  The outcome is seven polygons in different sized triangles, a square and a parallelogram.  The challenge is to put the pieces back together to form the original square.  Many students eventually found a solution and moved on to other Tangram polygon puzzles.  This is a great activity to try at home.  This link provides the template for making the Tangram pieces and the polygon puzzle pages the kids worked on today.  Have fun!
