The week to come is a short one. Parent teacher conferences are this Thursday and Friday, which means we will have three full days of learning, preparing portfolios for parent-teacher conferences, teacher-student conferences, and more. Students examined California road maps today (thanks AAA), highlighting Spanish place names, noting that such names more or less stop north of Sonoma and the northernmost mission. We looked at the significance of names, and how place names can serve a number of purposes. In science, we will use our data from last week's white powder experiments to test a mystery mixture this week and deduce which substances it contains – an activity quite similar to what chemists in the real world do on a regular basis. We look forward to meeting with you all later this week to show you the learning your children have been doing, and set discrete goals for the remainder of our year together.
Homework:
Math: 4th graders do the first page of your decimals packet, front and back sides
5th graders take on the second page of your packet
Portfolios: fill out all the self reflection rubrics by underlining where you think you are as a student, putting a date in the pertinent box
