Science Research and Looking at the Week

Homework:
Math - fourth and fifth graders have packets (no downloads available yet, b/c we have a new copier that isn't set up for the task)
Cultural Studies – finish the perspective writing on explorers, conquerors, and missionaries
Reading – always

Coming up this week:
Ft. Ross Info Night tomorrow from 6:30 to 7:30
Duxbury Reef on Wednesday (we still need drivers!)
We will otherwise be working intensively on publishing personal essays for the second issue of the Chanterelle and completing science mini-research. The science research is in small groups of 2-3 students, all work with (most likely) be completed at school, and requires students to read, write, and draw about a marine animal. They have to write about adaptations and conservations, draw the habitat and food web, and then we'll build a tide pool of our own next week.

Cerrito students introduced the South African national anthem at assembly this morning before the school sung it in memory of Nelson Mandela.

One student drew and cut out a gorgeous sea anemone on day one of our mini research project on tidepool animals. You'll see the result next Thursday morning at our science open house.

Nice chiton!

Student groups chose the intertidal they were most interested in researching. A big part of the lesson this morning was frontloading all the different ways groups have of working together. It was a truly serene hour and a half – nearly everyone was focussed and engaged.
