Homework:
Math: 4th graders choose from options 1 and 2; 5th graders due Tues hw in packet and work on the POW, which is due Friday
Cultural Studies: get your parents to help you choose something for the Deprivation Experiment. Do your kitchen indigenous food survey
Reading: as always, fill out response journal (10 responses due Friday)
Fifth graders worked on a 10,000 chart. They had to divide the chart up and label important "landmark" numbers. Then they had to locate numbers on the chart, like 4,532 – challenging work!

Students collaborated on a Voicethread today. Check out their responses, which range from really thoughtful and on point to totally silly. They will receive feedback on a rubric just the same as they would for a written assignment. We must recognize and attribute value to spoken and recorded demonstrations of understanding in addition to the traditional written ones. We also watched a music video by Sinead O'Connor with a powerful message about Ireland's Great Famine, a story that deeply parallels that of the Native Americans.

The small groups stirred up some fruitful academic arguments.

We are beginning to get our menu (or ingredients list, at least) worked out for Thursday. These are all indigenous foods to North America.
