Fourth and fifth graders had math together this morning. They worked in partnerships on a cows, pigs, and goats problem. Have your child explain it to you and see if you can figure it out. It's tough! I stressed the importance of choosing strategy, organizing work, and communicating with your partner. One group got the correct answer, which was great, but other groups scored higher points on the rubric for the aforementioned skills.

Nice organization!

The cartographic history of California is coming together on the back wall.

Students explored the question of how straws work this afternoon. They put their analytic and imaginative powers to work, drawing and communicating with peers before I spilled the beans as to how it actually works. Do you know? See related homework below.
Homework:
5th grade math (download Monday)
Cultural studies: finish Native Californians assignment that we began in class
Science: design a question about straws that you could test. Make a prediction about what will happen and explain yourself. You may
choose to carry out the experiment but do not have to.
Reading for 30 minutes if you have time, but what's above will probably be plenty. Please do not exceed your one hour limit.
