Student videographers are working to film convincing footage, cropping modern and familiar surroundings. Notice the shorts hidden by the table that certainly wouldn't have been part of any respectable Gold Rush gambler's attire.

We refer to the person running the computer editing as the "driver." The Mission group's skit is hilarious.

We are also recording an album on Garage Band right now that will ultimately have twelve to fifteen songs on it. It features the students singing and playing the songs we have worked on all year. Each student will take a cd home at the end of the year. Pictured is my USB condenser mic.
No homework except Sima's math group has an ongoing dream house project (see below) with components due Friday and next Wednesday. Here's a gold panning packing list:
lunch
snack
water bottle
sunscreen/hat/shades
walking shoes
shorts or swimsuit for wading in the the river
jacket
optional: fishing rod, gold pan, small jar or vial in which to put your gold dust

Fourth grade math
What would you put in your dream house?  Students are answering this question, while demonstrating their understanding of some of the main concepts from fourth grade math, with the Dream House Project.  They signed their Building Contracts today and started work planning their 4 required rooms (living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom) as well as 1 "special" room. They have financial constraints they must work within, and descriptions of their thinking, both in writing and with numbers and pictures.

Students will be working on this project for homework over the next 2 weeks. You can download the project here and the graph paper here.

Fourth grade math homework
Part 1, due Friday, June 8.
  • Complete a draft of your floor plan by cutting out the regular rooms and halls (and any “special” rooms) from graph paper (1 unit = 1 foot; 1 square unit = 1 square foot) and taping them together to make your house.
  • Record the dimensions, area, and cost on the cutout of each room or hallway.
  • Track your budget on the “Budget Update” sheets.
  • Complete paragraph 1.
